Early life and background edit

Simon Michael Wall [1] was born on 05 May, 1963, in Canning Town, London, England, about 5.6 miles from the City of London. He was welcomed into the world by his English parents Michael and Ann Wall, both from London. He has a younger brother, Jonathan, who works in Marketing.  Wall’s mother and father were practising Christians, and Si Wall was a part of the church - a part of the Boys Brigade for most of his youth, as an adult he refers to himself as a ‘Spiritual Atheist.’

Wall was a schoolboy footballer, progressing to playing for Brentford as well as the Boys Brigade and school teams in his early teens. He also had a love for dancing, and after his mother found a place in East London he could attend, he danced regularly. His Uncle and Godfather, a working comedian and actor, regularly introduced Wall to colourful and gregarious performers that Si attributes to the start of his love for entertainment.

Si Wall’s adult life took him to many places but entertainment was left to be continued. He owned his own print business, studied for a Law Degree in the early 2000’s at Liverpool University, but his passion for practising was superseded by his desire to return to his original love of screen and stage.

Director & Screenwriter edit

Filmography edit

Si Wall began training in filmography and attended the  Raindance Film School, London [10]. He became certified in Film Directing and Directing Actors.

He trained in Film Editing with Soho Editors, London and established himself with an Intermediate Editing training, FCP, as well as training in Pro Tools, Level 3.[11]

Si inherited  a strong love of natural history from his Mother, and was keen to gain a qualification in Wildlife Filmmaking at the WIldlife Film Academy in Cape Town, SA.

Wall spent a large degree of time in South Africa on Wildlife Documentary filmmaking practising  Cinematography.

He went on to make his first foray as a documentary filmmaker working in Eastern Europe making two detailed pieces based on local customs, culture and traditions. The documentary titled ‘Nestinari: Dancers of Fire.’ was initially  broadcast on selected  Bulgarian TV channels before being distributed in several South American countries as an educational resource.

This acted as a catapult from his transition in documentary filming to feature film making. Si Wall entered a competition with William Shatner as one of the judges at the Marbella Film Festival. Pulling resources with a cast of three and crew of four, he decided to enter the ‘Best Short Film Challenge’. He set about making the film with talented actors including Lucy Challenger & Annalea Doyle. Wall submitted his completed film and attended the nominations and awards ceremony. Si Wall was delighted, but equally shocked when they called his film to be the winner of the category!! This was the first film Wall had made and to win an award so early on, was a catalyst to returning to London and  pursuing filmmaking as a full time career.

He firstly became a member of ‘The Directors Guild, GB’  and then went on to make three feature length independent films - ‘The Dinner Party’[1] ‘Speed Date’[1] and ‘Consequence’[1]. He also worked as guest director for the film titled ‘Moths’[2] assisting a fellow filmmaker.

Films edit

2009 - The Dinner Party [12] edit

Filming this in his own unique ‘Wall’ style, the cast were given a story and dialogue, but with no structured script. Each ‘story’ was worked on with Wall, in one-on-one sessions, to develop into a believable and honest part of the characters life. The maverick style paid off, with all actors becoming honest, natural and true, and avoided any chance of appearing staged.  Wall will often work in unconventional ways, including his ‘3 minute bus-stop audition technique’ which has been replicated by other working directors.

The synopsis of this is brief, and on the surface, nothing out of the ordinary. This film is all about a loving couple who are reunited after some time forced apart and we witness their recoupling. As a celebratory dinner party is thrown to restart this union with some local guests, we are fortunate to have front row seats and witness their love for each other. What could possibly go wrong at a civilised get together?

Playing in this ensemble cast are Emily Sidonie.[12], Steven Gary [12], Rebecca-Clare Evans [12], Marco Radice [12], Stuart Wolfenden [12], Holly Matthews [12], Michael Anthony Bond [12], Tilly Brooke [12], Jo Marriott [12], Janice Pearson [12] and  Drew Hancock [12]

2010 - Speed Date [13] edit

Another film that is attributed to Si’s signature style, and a larger cast is Speed Date[13]. When a group of single people all looking for love come together for one evening, what could possibly go wrong? A wry look at the UK singles scene, through the eyes of the daters!

Being filmed in the heart of South East London this film is entertaining and comical.....a film the generation of today can relate to in every way!' Si set himself a challenge to see just how much of a story could be accomplished in one 24hour period. Speed Date was shot in 17 hours 35 minutes.

Those that were a part of the film include; Marco Radice.[13], Heidi Mumford [13], Samantha Smith [13], Daniel Mullins [13], Drew Hancock [13], Katie Richmond [13], Annalea Doyle [13], Janice Pearson [13], and Lainey Shaw [13]

2012 - Consequence [14] edit

Si’s third film, again, a push of the boundaries with just one actor, was filmed in 2012. The premise of the film was to get the audience to wonder ‘What would YOU do if you could have one whole day without Consequence?’

The protagonist, ‘Jodie Webster’ allows the viewer to take a trip with her into her day in the life without consequences. She’s a spirited young woman, like many of a similar age, except that she now finds herself in a unique situation! What could possibly happen in one day, working through a list, with no consequences.

Starring Katie Richmond.[14]

Writer - Screen, Stage & Novelist [5]

Wall has always been a writer. He thoroughly enjoys using his imagination in a multitude of mediums, and writing is a bit of a drug for him. As well as writing a book called ‘Amelia and The Elf’ that was released in 2013, he has penned numerous screenplays, stage plays and written lyrics and music to create songs.

Theatre edit

Suburban Breadsticks The Musical [4] edit

Si has now finished his musical adaptation of the first film he made, The Dinner Party. Titled ‘Suburban Sticks - The Musical’ [4] and is due for a theatre run in mid to late 2024. Si has recruited a formidable team this time to ensure that this stage musical is best placed to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with established pieces of musical theatre. Established performers are already seeking consideration along with sponsors.

Bay Gables [5] edit

Si Wall decided to turn his attention to writing a series of intimate, gentle plays that focus on that time of our lives when we look back and recall our highlights.  The stories that are taken with us when we depart that will never be heard again should have at least one more outing. As always, with Wall, the stories told should and will, prompt a discussion.

Bay Gables’ was written with the intention of creating a series of stage or radio plays. They are based on a community of individuals who live in ‘flatlets’. The retellings of stories from an older generation might just give us a hint about the decisions we make and the impact it may well have on our later lives.

Other film & TV projects in Development. edit

Si has other screenplays too. From a dark and threatening tale of homelessness titled ‘Drinking Chocolate’ to another six-part comedy for TV  ‘Would Like To Meet’ (WLTM). 'Drinking Chocolate' is under option and WLTM remains a project that could be brought to life by Wall et al.

Author edit

Amelia and the Elf edit

Si Wall penned the first in a series of five fantasy fiction novels based around the adventures of a spirited young girl called Amelia!

The first book's completed & entitled 'Amelia and the Elf'. It's a book brimming with exciting and challenging surprises. It all starts with Amelia, a young girl living with her Mum and Dad in London. Amelia embarks on a brave, unexpected adventure with them, but it's not quite how she thought it would be!

Si Wall writes '......I'm enjoying writing the second Amelia book - Amelia - The Princess Returns. A big thank you to all of those that are supporting the journey of the character Amelia, the magical place of Elfingdorn and all Amelia's adventures there! It's the second instalment  in a series that’s created an entire new world so I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing it'

Song writer & Composer [15] edit

Music [15] edit

Wall a.k.a 'Si.X' is a creative songwriter, composer & producer [15] within the music industry, Si. is writing and collaborating with upcoming artists.

He enjoys releasing soundtracks that tell a story to our lives, and continuously looks for inspiration to form his songs.

His three songs to date are - ‘Annie’ [15], ‘Sorry Reaper’ [15] & ‘Leave The Light On’ [15]

As a lyricist, Si Wall has written the full 20+ songs for the upcoming musical, ‘Suburban Breadsticks’ [4], along with composer Harry Graham [4]. The full soundtrack will be released with the musical.

Annie [16] edit

The first of Wall’s songs, released independently was ‘Annie’ [16]. A song where he collaborated with new singing talent Maddie Soleil. It’s a shattered love story, told by a friend that’s trying to pick up the pieces for her.

Sorry Reaper [17] edit

The first song released through record label ‘K Dragon Records’ in July 2023 [17] All about a sudden illness that takes someone to the brink of death, but a determination that it is not their time, a conversation with the Reaper.

Leave The Light On [18] edit

Another dark  song but brimming with love.  Released through ‘K Dragon Records’ 4th November 2023 [18]. A song asking their loved one to leave a light on for them when the time comes, so they can be reunited.

Acting Coach 'Actor's Toolbox Workshop'[19]

Throughout his time working with actors on his films, Si has had a natural ability to bring out the best acting from his muses. His unorthodox approaches are thoroughly loved on film sets. Scripts are a tool and not his priority when preparing. He is looking for emotion, natural expression that is not acted, rather felt. This enables the actor to feel free from the constraints of conventional environments.

It was only on reflection after the shoot, post production, and premiere of the last film, that Wall thought perhaps he should lend his hand to training actors so they were no longer hemmed in, and can offer a little more to an audition as well as be comfortable on a film set.

He called these ‘Actor's Toolbox Workshop’ [19] and they have been running intermittently ever since with many successful actors able to go on to have excellent careers.
