ShiuKim Taiwanese Opera Troupe (Chinese: 秀琴歌劇團),is a privately run Taiwanese opera troupe registered in Tainan City, Taiwan. It was founded by Chang Hsiu-chin (1963-)[1] in Taichung City in 1986, and then registered in Tainan City in 2001. The troupe is dedicated to indoor/outdoor performances and outdoor performances for local worshipping events. The troupe has been selected as one of the TAIWAN TOP performing arts groups since 2001.

ShiuKim Taiwanese Opera Troupe was established by Chang Hsiu-chin in 1986 and was officially registered in Taichung in 1988. The troupe’s first performance at Tainan San Shan Guo Wang Temple in 1990 was well received[2], and they started making their public performances in 2000. The troupe was later registered in Tainan City in 2001, with core members Chang Hsiu-chin, who plays roles of sheng, Chuang Chin-mei, who plays roles of xiao dan, and playwright-director-actress Mi Hsueh (Chen Min-ling) leading the younger actress Chang Hsin-yi and all the other troupe members. They are active in outdoor performances for local worshipping events, indoor/outdoor performances, and even modern theater.

The troupe has been selected as one of the TAIWAN TOP performing arts groups since 2001 and have been selected four times in the Production and Publication of Taiwanese Opera Project held by the National Culture and Arts Foundation. It has been selected as a troupe participating in the joint Taiwanese opera performances consecutively in addition to performing at the Baosheng Cultural Festival, Taipei Arts Festival in Community, Tainan Arts Festival, and Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival. In 2012, Remembering Anping marked the troupe’s debut at the National Performing Arts Center - National Theater. In 2023, the National Center for Traditional Arts commissioned the troupe to make the grand production, Tears of the Phoenix, for the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Festival, which was performed at the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center Main Theatre. Apart from performances, the troupe also aims to pass on and promote Taiwanese operas and develop talent for Taiwanese opera.[3][4][5]

2004 The Troupe Leader Chang Hsiu-chin was awarded the Theater Award at the Chung Hsing Arts Award.[6]

2011 Remembering Anping was granted the 3rd “Pursuit of Excellence Project” by the National Culture and Arts Foundation[7], and was Shortlisted for the Yearly Work in Performing Arts at the 10th Taishin Arts Award.[8]

2014 Remembering Anping was nominated for the Best Audiovisual Album at the 25th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music.[9]

2015 Legend of Tang Dynasty was nominated for the Best Audiovisual Album at the 26th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music.[10]

2018 The Troupe Leader Chang Hsiu-chin was awarded the Global Chinese Culture & Arts Awards: Local Theater[11]

2018 Begger Su was nominated for Best Group Performance at the 26th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music. Chang Hsin-yi was nominated for the Best New Artist, and Chuang Chin-mei was nominated for the Best Performer.[12]

2019 The Demon-attracting Fragrance was nominated for the Best Audiovisual Album at the 30th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music.[13]

2020 Remembering Anping was nominated for Best Group Performance at the 31st Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music. Wang Yu-hui was nominated for Best Theatre Script, Chou Yi-Chien was nominated for Best Musical Design, and Chang Hsiu-chin was nominated for the Best Performer.[14]
