Shervin Haghsheno (born 1975 in Teheran, Iran) is a German civil engineer, economist and politician (BSW). He is a tenured professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie - KIT), where he serves as managing director of the Institute of Technology and Management in Construction.[1] Since January 2024, he has been the vice chairman of the German political party Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht – Vernunft und Gerechtigkeit.

Life

Shervin Haghsheno was born in Teheran in 1975 and has been living in Germany since 1985.

Following his German high school graduation (Abitur) at Augustinerschule Friedberg, he commenced his studies in construction engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, which he completed in 1999 as a graduate construction engineer (Diplom-Ingenieur). Subsequently, he was employed as a research assistant at the Institute of Construction Management of the Technical University of Darmstadt. Simultaneously, he studied business administration at FernUniversität in Hagen, graduating with a business degree (Diplom-Kaufmann) in 2004. During that same year, he completed his doctoral thesis.

In 2004, he commenced his business career with Bilfinger SE. Until 2005 he served as an assistant to the board of management at company headquarters. Subsequently, he switched to the building division of the group. From 2005 until 2007, he assumed project management tasks at the Frankfurt branch of Bilfinger Hochbau GmbH, where he became a member of the branch management in 2007. In 2008, he was promoted to the management of Bilfinger Hochbau GmbH and held this position until 2013.

In 2013, he was awarded tenure as a professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. There, he serves as managing director of the Institute of Technology and Management in Construction and the head of the Construction Process Management Group.

From 2013 until 2015, he also completed an education as a mediator.[1]

Research

Shervin Haghsheno has been actively engaged in research in the fields of project management in the construction and real estate sectors, construction process management, collaborative project delivery models, lean construction, digitization in construction as well as conflict management in the construction and real estate sectors. He is the author of numerous articles published in these fields of research. Since 2018, he has served as vice-dean of the KIT-Department of Civil Engineering, Geo and Environmental Sciences.[1]

In addition, Shervin Haghsheno has been engaged in various professional associations and committees. In 2014, he was one of the founding members of the German Lean Construction Institute – GLCI e.V. , a non-profit association promoting lean construction and has been chairman of the board of the GLCI since that time.[2] From 2016 to 2021, he was a board member of the Verein MKBauImm – Mediation und Konfliktmanagement in der Bau- und Immobilienwirtschaft e.V., a non-profit association engaged in mediation and conflict management in the construction and real estate sectors. He became the chairman of the association in 2017.[3] Since 2020, he has been a member of the management and the advisory board of IPA-Zentrum – Kompetenzzentrum für Integrierte Projektabwicklung, a platform for construction sector stakeholders promoting integrated project delivery.[4] Moreover, he has been a member of the presiding body of iddiw Institut der Deutschen Immobilienwirtschaft e.V., a non-profit association of German real estate sector stakeholders.[5] Finally, he has been a member of the editorial board of the professional journal Bauingenieur since 2016.[6]

Political Career

According to an article published in Der Spiegel, Shervin Haghsheno has been a CDU voter since his naturalization 25 years ago. In the summer of 2023, he contacted Sahra Wagenknecht for the first time and offered his support.[7] Since January 8, 2024, he has served as Vice Chairman of Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht – Vernunft und Gerechtigkeit.[8][9]
