This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. Declined by Theroadislong 9 months ago. |
- Comment: Please see WP:REFB for advice on correct referencing using the dynamic method of inline citations and footnotes. There is little point in piling citations into 'References' section, where they support nothing. Cite your sources inline after the information they support, that way it is clear to everyone which source has provided what information. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:20, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Sheffield Youth Orchestra is an orchestra in Sheffield, England. It caters for players whose age range from 8-18 years (primary and secondary school age). The orchestra was founded in 1964 and is South Yorkshire's longest-running indepedent youth orchestra. SYO rehearse in the term time on a weekly basis and its main aim is to promote the musical development of young musicians in full time education. Musicians in the orchestra are typically Grade 5+ ABRSM. They have worked with distinguished groups like the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra.
The orchestra plays in several concerts throughout the academic year. In addition to the orchestra's stand-alone concerts, SYO frequently collaborates with local music organisations. Notable collaborations include performing in Classical Sheffield's bi-annual weekend and collaborating internationally with the Scotch College Australian Youth Orchestra in January 2023. The standard of performance is high, and the repertoire covered is deliberately broad and challenging. Repertoire ranges from traditional symphonic pieces to contemporary, modern works and film repertoire.
Sheffield Youth Orchestra holds a residential weekend once a year in the Peak District alongside a range of social events throughout the year for players.
From September 2022, SYO has hosted termly community days, giving opportunities for local musicians of all ages and backgrounds to rehearse ambitious repertoire in a day. These days are free to attend and attract musicians from the local area and surroundings. The repertoire is tailored towards film music such as: Jaws, Raiders March, Lord of the Rings and My Neighbour Totoro. Beginner musicians can join for a shorter, part-day orchestral experience too.
River Edis-Smith is the current conductor of Sheffield Youth Orchestra (from September 2022) and is helped by a committee of parents whom have members currently in the orchestra. He studied at the University of Surrey and is a professional violinist, composer, conductor and educator.
