Fedchenko Serhii (Ukrainian: Федченко Сергій, born April 10, 1981, Kharkiv, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian professional boxer competing in the super lightweight division (up to 63 kg), Master of Sports of Ukraine, IBF Intercontinental World Champion (2008), WBO European Champion (2012). Serhii Fedchenko became known to the world as a contender for the WBO super lightweight world title in 2012 in Mexico, meeting in the ring with the former world champion in several weight categories, one of the best boxers on the planet, regardless of weight category, 38-year-old Mexican Juan Manuel Márquez.
Biography
Serhii started boxing at the age of 14 - boxing section in the sports club "GONG", the first coach was Koroplyasov A. T.
At the age of 16, he transferred to the Youth Sports School No. 9, where he trained under the guidance of the Honored Coach of Ukraine Demchenko V. N.
In 1998, he transferred from the school No. 38 to the Kharkiv Higher School of Physical Education No. 1 - to the Boxing department, which he graduated from in 2000.
From 2000 to 2005, he was a student at the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, where he received a higher education as a Master of History.
Amateur career
He fought more than 100 fights in the amateur ring, successfully achieving:
• the standard of Master of Sports of Ukraine, • Master of Sports of Russia, • became the champion of the Universiade, • a prize-winner of the championships and cups of Ukraine, • the winner of many international tournaments in Poland, the Baltics, Transnistria, Russia, etc.
Professional career
In 2002, Serhii Fedchenko began his journey to the top of professional boxing. In the ring, he stood out for his speed, excellent sense of distance, ability to find the opponent's weaknesses and deliver optimal blows. On May 17, 2008, in his native Kharkiv, Serhii won his first title - the IBF Intercontinental World Champion with a representative of Uganda - Peter Simo. The President of the National League of Professional Boxing Mikhail Mikhailovich Zavyalov Mikhail Mikhailovich Zavyalov called Serhii's work in the ring "professorial" and from that moment on Serhii was given the honorary prefix "Professor".
On November 13, 2010, S. Fedchenko won the vacant WBO European Light Welterweight title in a fight against former world champion American DeMarcus Corley and soon entered the top 20 professional boxers in the world in the super lightweight division.
On April 14, 2012, Juan Manuel Marquez Mendez (54-6-1, 39 KOs), with the support of more than 22,000 fans in Mexico City, won a unanimous decision over Serhii Fedchenko (30-2, 13 KOs) and won the WBO Interim Light Welterweight World Champion belt. Contrary to numerous predictions, Serhii Fedchenko spent all 12 rounds in the ring and lost only by decision. The Ukrainian looked very worthy in this fight and caused Marquez a lot of problems. This fight was called "Victory in Defeat". Serhii was the first Ukrainian who met in the ring with the former world champion in several weight categories, one of the best boxers on the planet.
After the fight with the legend, Fedchenko's position in the WBO rating is 2nd.
In November 2011, in a fight against Frenchman Willie Blaine, Serhii successfully defended the title of European Champion according to the WBO and became a contender for the title of World Champion according to the WBO (at that time it was held by American Timothy Bradley). In December 2011, Serhii was in 2nd place in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) WBO rating.
