Biography edit
Pyotr Sergiev was born on September 3, 1973, in Moscow[1] into the family of Academician Vladimir Petrovich Sergiev (born 1943), a Soviet epidemiologist and parasitologist. He is the grandson of Soviet parasitologist and epidemiologist Academician Pyotr Grigorievich Sergiev (1893-1973).
In 1995 he graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University. In 1998, he defended his PhD thesis on "Application of new photoaffinity reagents to study the spatial organization of ribosome functional centers".
In 2008, he defended his doctoral thesis on "Molecular aspects of ribosomal RNA functioning".[2]
Since 2012, he has been a professor at the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds, Faculty of Chemistry. He leads the courses "Molecular Biology of the Cell", "Computer Methods in Molecular Biology".
In 2018 he was awarded the honorary academic title of Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 17 April 2023, Pyotr became the director of the A.N.Belozersky Research Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology.[3]

Area of research interests: molecular mechanisms of protein biosynthesis, inhibition of translation by antibiotics, enzymatic modification of RNA, genomic editing, functional genomics, obtaining mice with altered genome.
