Sanjiv Singh (Born March 3, 1962) is a figure in the field of robotics and autonomous systems, particularly known for his contributions to the development of aerial autonomy and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). He is the co-founder and CEO of Near Earth Autonomy, a technology company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, specializing in autonomous flight systems and robotics for various applications including transportation, agriculture, and infrastructure inspection.

Sanjiv Singh was born in Bareilly, India on March 3, 1962. As a child, Singh grew up in Mumbai, India where he attended Cathedral and John Connon School for 5 years. Later, he immigrated to Denver, Colorado through a rotary exchange program, where he graduated high school at Poudre High School in 1979 and got his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University of Denver in 1983. After graduation, he pursued higher education in which he received a Master's degree from Lehigh University in Electrical Engineering in 1985 and a Master's degree in Robotics in 1993 and Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon University in 1995.

Career and Contributions edit

Following his academic pursuits, Sanjiv Singh embarked on a career in robotics research and development. He joined the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University, where he played a key role in advancing the state-of-the-art in autonomous systems and robotics. His research interests encompassed a wide range of topics including perception, planning, and control for autonomous vehicles.

In addition to his academic endeavors, Singh co-founded Near Earth Autonomy, a spinoff from CMU's Robotics Institute, with the vision of commercializing technologies in aerial autonomy. As Chief Executive Officer of Near Earth Autonomy, Singh has led the company in pioneering innovative solutions for autonomous flight, enabling drones and other unmanned aircraft to navigate and operate safely and efficiently in complex environments.

Under Singh's leadership, Near Earth Autonomy has achieved many different milestones in the development and deployment of autonomous systems for various industries. The company's technology has been applied to a diverse array of applications including aerial inspection of critical infrastructure, precision agriculture, and last-mile delivery.
