Rivertowns Playhouse, formerly known as Irvington Shakespeare Company, is a professional, small-scale theater company based in Irvington, New York in Westchester County, New York. In 2023, the organization established itself as the permanent secular resident theater company at the Irvington Presbyterian Church..[1]
History
editIn 2021, a lifelong resident of Irvington, actor Kamran Saliani, founded the Irvington Shakespeare Company and signed into an Arts Partnership with the Irvington Theater.[2]
In 2022, they were granted special permission from Ian McKellen to revive his one-man show Acting Shakespeare in the Lower Hudson Valley region of New York, in a co-production with the Irvington Theater [3]. It ran at Mercy University that spring [4]. They also produced a production of Love's Labour's Lost in the summer of 2022. [5].
In 2024, they produced a new adaptation of "Acting Shakespeare" for their summer 2024 Shakespeare Festival titled "Acting Shakespeare Inside America's Wilderness" [6]. For this edition, Saliani was additionally granted permission by Shakespeare Scholar and Author James S. Shapiro to use excerpts from his book "Shakespeare in a Divided America" [7]
