Ravi Koka is an Indian American serial entrepreneur with a distinguished career in the technology industry, based in Pittsburgh, PA, United States. He is the co-founder of SEEC Inc. and StockSnips Inc. He has over three decades of expertise in information technology and R&D, with a recent emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). He successfully led the IPO of SEEC Inc in 1997.
Early Life edit
Koka was born in Madras, India in 1950 and after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the University of Madras, India in 1971, moved to the USA to pursue graduate studies. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Kansas State University in 1973. He was a Research Associate at the Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, in 1984 and worked on problems relating to language translation and transformation of legacy systems.

After working at System Development Corporation in Santa Monica, California, and Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, India, he founded ERA Software Systems, a PC software product company in India, and then moved to the USA and founded SEEC Inc based on his research on the enhancement and modernization of enterprise applications. SEEC’s solutions for the Y2K problem were unique and enabled the company to work with Fortune 1000 companies across the world, partnered with IBM and Unisys. In 2005, SEEC pioneered the approach of using business software components to assemble enterprise applications and was awarded by ACORD.[1] In 2008, SEEC was acquired by Polaris Financial Technology (aka Intellect Design Arena) [www.intellectdesign.com].
In 2015, Ravi founded StockSnips (www.stocksnips.ai), a company at the crossroads of technology and finance. StockSnips harnesses the power of AI to construct systematic AI-driven portfolios. Under his guidance, the company also utilized NLP and Machine Learning to derive news sentiment, culminating in the launch of StockSnips solutions tailored for the investment domain.
His entrepreneurial spirit has also been evident through multiple successful ventures, including the notable Initial Public Offering (IPO) of SEEC Inc in 1997. SEEC Inc, under his leadership, emerged as a front-runner in the domain of application modernization and transformation.

Ravi has fostered a close relationship with both faculty and students at Carnegie Mellon University, emphasizing his commitment to continued research and development in the field. His contributions to the industry have been recognized with accolades such as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1997.
