Rashedul Hasan is a Bangladeshi-born Australian IT professional and chef, best known for his participation in the ninth season of the reality cooking show MasterChef Australia.[1] Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Hasan's early life was marked by a move to Chattogram due to his father's job, where he attended Ispahani Public School and College. He later returned to Dhaka for his studies at Government Laboratory School. Hasan pursued engineering before moving to Australia in 2011.[2]
Early Life and Education edit
Rashedul Hasan was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His father's hometown is Bikrampur, Munshiganj, and his mother hails from Ishwardi, Pabna. Hasan's early education took place in Chattogram and Dhaka, reflecting his family's movements due to his father's occupation. A passionate cricketer during his youth, Hasan set aside his sporting ambitions to care for his ailing mother, a decision that deeply influenced his personal and professional life.
MasterChef Australia edit
In 2017, Hasan participated in the ninth season of MasterChef Australia.[1] His journey on the show began with an audition dish of Saffron Poached Pears with Smoked Vanilla Ice Cream [3], which earned him an apron presented by his son in a touching moment facilitated by judge Matt Preston. However, Hasan's time on the show was short-lived. He faced a significant setback in the first episode as his plate with plenty of his ingredients dropped a minute before plating, leading to his elimination in the second episode. During an elimination challenge involving mangoes and green peppercorns, Hasan's inability to effectively incorporate the peppercorns into his mango, mint, and peppercorn sorbet led to his departure from the show.
Career and Culinary Ventures edit
Following his appearance on MasterChef, Hasan continued to pursue his passion for food. While maintaining his career as an IT Program Director at Ericsson, he engaged in various culinary projects. Hasan hosted tasting menus in Dhaka, such as "Aficionado – The Masterchef Tasting Menu" at Chows & El Patron in Banani, and a pop-up fine dining event at Cero Dhaka with chef Arpon Changma. His culinary endeavors have been featured in multiple news outlets in Bangladesh.
Personal Life edit
Hasan's personal life gained public attention during his MasterChef audition, where his son played a role in presenting him with the MasterChef apron. This moment highlighted the close bond within his family.
Future Endeavors edit
Hasan, along with fellow MasterChef contestant Sarah Tiong, plans to open a restaurant named Ogni in Surrey Hills, NSW. The restaurant aims to offer modern Australian cuisine infused with South and Southeast Asian flavors, reflecting the diverse culinary backgrounds of its founders.
