Rajesh Babu K Sooranad is an Indian music director, film producer, and scenarist who predominantly works in the Malayalam film industry.
Early life edit
Rajesh Babu was born the third son of N Karunakaran Nair and Vijayalakshmi Amma in Sooranad village in Kollam District of Kerala State in India. He was inspired to sing by his elder sisters. He learned Carnatic music for seven years under the tutelage of Sooranad Gangadharan. As per the Guru's instructions, he was active in music concerts and recitals during his schooling and graduation. Rajesh Babu did his Post Graduation in Human Resource Management from Nagpur University and worked as an HR Professional thereafter for nearly fifteen years in different sectors like Retail, hospitality, IT, Manufacturing and Service Industries, and also had a two-year stint as an entrepreneur before he entered into movies in 2015.[2]

After switching his career to movies, he wrote the script for the malayalam movie "Take It Easy".[3] The script was based on his experience in both personal and professional life applying various management practices such as Neuro-linguistic Programming, Emotional Intelligence, Relationship Management Techniques, Transactional Analysis, etc., which are normally practised in HR Management. During the post-production work of the film "Take It Easy", he met prominent personalities in the film industry.[4] [5]
The song "Chandanam Sugandhamekiya Sundarodayakeralam" written by poet Shri P.K. Gopi which was dedicated to Kerala on 1st November 2016 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Kerala's formation, was composed by Rajesh Babu. The musical was sung by ten playback singers featuring all the traditional art forms of Kerala, and was performed by more than a hundred artists in Kerala.[6] [7]
He got an opportunity to compose music for the song "Maduramam Ormakal" for the movie Mattancheri Rajesh Babu teamed up with musician Shimjith Sivan, and composed songs for Mattancheri as a composer-duo. Then, as a composer-duo, he composed music for the films like Sreehalli, [8] Ithirivettam, Vellaripravukal, Pullu, etc. Rajesh Babu and Shimjith Sivan composed the songs and BGM for the film "Pullu' a Malayalam movie produced by First-Clap, an organization formed under the leadership of the renowned film director Mr. Shajoon Kariyal to train new talents. "Pullu" won awards and accolades at various international film festivals.[9] [10] He also composed the soundtrack and music for the film "Randam Mukham." [11]
Rajesh Babu produced the films "Perfume-Her Fragrance", "Binary"[12] and "Zha".[13] The songs in Perfume-Her Fragrance composed by him fetched K.S. Chithra and PK Sunilkumar the Kerala Film Critics Association Awards 2020 for the best Female and Male Playback Singers respectively. The song "Neelavanam Thalamenthi" from the movie Perfume-Her Fragrance was rated by Malayala Manorama among the five best songs released during Covid Pandemic.[14] [15] [16]
