Prosper Mackenzie NUDE is a distinguished Geologist and Academic from Ghana. He holds the position of full professor[1] of geology in the Department of Earth Science at the University of Ghana[2]. With more than thirty three (33+) years of experience in both industry and academia, his expertise encompasses a wide range of geological fields, including petrology, field geology, mineral exploration, and applied geochemistry.

Early Life and Education

edit

Prosper Mackenzie NUDE was born in Klefe-Dome, located in the Ho Municipality of the Volta region in Ghana. He completed his General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary level at Kpedze Secondary School and his GCE Advanced level at Bishop Herman College. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Ghana and went on to receive his MPhil and PhD degrees in Petrology and Geochemistry from the same institution. Additionally, he spent a year as a visiting non-degree PhD student at Utah State University. His PhD research on carbonatite and nepheline syenite gneiss in the Dahomeyide suture zone in southeastern Ghana was supervised by Prof. Kojopa Attoh, formerly of Cornell University, and Prof. John W. Shervais of Utah State University.

Professional Career

edit

NUDE began his career at the University of Ghana in March 2000 as a Lecturer. He advanced to Senior Lecturer[3] in February 2009, Associate Professor in April 2012, and achieved full Professorship in February 2016. He served as the Head of the Department of Earth Science from June 2011 to July 2016. Before joining the university, he worked at Ghana’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as an Assistant Research Officer from 1993 to 1996. He also gained experience with major international mining and mineral exploration companies, as well as smaller private exploration tenements dealing with both precious and development minerals from 1996 to 2000. Throughout his career, he has conducted extensive fieldwork in West Africa and participated in numerous geological field trips across Africa, the USA, and Australia. Academic Research Work

edit

NUDE's research interests has been mainly about the Precambrian Geology and Metallogeny of the Pan African Belt and the Birimian of West Africa. His broader interests include the geochemical exploration of precious and strategic minerals, mine spoils, and rock-water interactions. He has published extensively in geosciences[1], along with journal articles, technical reports, competent person and expert reports, conference papers, and abstracts. Since 1998, he has been a consulting geoscientist, providing expertise to both the private and public sectors in various capacities, including applied research and development and as a "Competent Person" in mineral exploration projects. From 2013 to 2016, he served as an Expert Witness and Expert Reviewer for the Government of Ghana in mineral arbitration cases. Additionally, he has supervised numerous students, including graduate students, and has trained and mentored many geologists.

Professional Associations

edit

He is a Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Geoscientists[4] and the Society of Economic Geologists. Additionally, he is a member of the European Association of Geochemistry and the Australian Institute of Geoscientists[5]. He holds a Life Membership, serves on the Council, and is the Membership Secretary of the Geological Society of Africa[6]. He is also a member of the Nigerian Mining and Geoscientists Society[7]. Moreover, he is part of the African Minerals and Energy Resources Classification and Management System (AMREC) working group and co-authored the Pan African Resource Reporting Code (PARC) 2023.
