PingFang (Traditional Chinese: 蘋方, Simplified Chinese: 苹方) is the default font family used to render Chinese characters on operating systems for Apple devices, including watchOS, tvOS, macOS, iOS, iPadOS. It is an East Asian Gothic typeface. The font family replaces Chinese language fonts "Heiti TC" and "Heiti SC" on Apple OSes, which has been the default since iOS 4 and Mac OS X v10.5 ("Leopard").
History edit
On June 8, 2015, PingFang was announced at WWDC 2015 in San Francisco as the default Chinese language font for iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan (10.11). It comes in three varieties: "PingFang SC" for Simplified Chinese, "PingFang HK" for Traditional Chinese used in Hong Kong, and "PingFang TC" for Traditional Chinese used in Taiwan. The font family was developed by DynaComware by contract for Apple Inc.
