Philipp Johann Thimm (b. 1987) is a German multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, and composer based in Berlin.
Early Life edit
Philipp Thimm began his musical career under the guidance of Hans-Peter Schulz, a notable figure in the field of New Music. By the age of 15, Thimm was actively involved in Schulz's ensemble and played a role in the premiere recording of Jakob Ullmann's "Voice, Books and Fire 3." He pursued formal music education at the Leopold-Mozart-Konservatorium in Augsburg in 2005, focusing on the Cello. In 2007, he expanded his musical skills to include electric guitar at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, studying under Peter Wölpl and Michael Kosho Koschorrek
During his student years, Thimm collaborated with several artists including Jonah Matranga, Jon Lord, The Album Leaf, and Get Well Soon. In 2009, he co-founded the alternative band Abby and released multiple EPs and LPs under Universal Music/Island Records. After relocating to Berlin in 2010, he worked as a studio instrumentalist, producer, and arranger, collaborating with artists like David Lemaitre, Ellen Allien, Moderat, and Wallis Bird.
Thimm's work with PC Nackt and Apparat (Sascha Ring) starting in 2011 significantly raised his profile in the music industry. Their collective efforts produced soundtracks for theaters and films, with their 2019 album "LP5" receiving a Grammy nomination and the VUT-Indie Award. They also scored "Capri Revolution" (2018), earning multiple awards including the David-di-Donatello-Prize.
In 2023, Thimm released his debut solo album "Birds Singing Till The World Ends," featuring twelve tracks inspired by his personal experiences.
