Peter Craig Rubardt (born 7 August 1958) is an American conductor from Berkeley, California. He is currently music director of the Pensacola, Meridian, and Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestras. He was formerly music director at the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and Rutgers Symphony Orchestra.[1]

Early life and education edit

Peter Rubardt was born in Berkeley, California. He studied the piano from a young age and continued through music into college. He frequented The Juilliard School in New York City and received a D.M.A. in orchestral conducting. Later, he studied at the Vienna Academy of Music, Tanglewood Music Center, and Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. He studied under Otto-Werner Mueller, Sixten Ehrling, Michael Senturia and David Lawton. In 1984, he became a Fulbright scholar. He has also participated in the masterclasses of Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn, and Herbert Blomstedt.

Career edit

After university, Rubardt conducted a number of symphonies and held many positions among them. Rubardt was the associate conductor of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, resident conductor of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and the music director of the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra. After 13 years of conducting at these symphonies, Rubardt was appointed conductor of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra in 1996, a post he retains today. He also is the music director of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra and the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra.

Rubardt was later selected by the League of American Orchestras to perform in the National Conductor Preview with the Jacksonville Symphony.

Rubardt has been a faculty member of many universities, including The Juilliard School, Rutgers University, and the State University of New York and University of California, Berkeley from which he has received multiple degrees and awards. He has recorded for Pantheon Records International.
