Patience Nombeko Mbava is a South African academic and Chairperson of the Financial and Fiscal Commission. She was born in Cape Town on 26 March 1972. She was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to lead the Commission since 2021 for five years. The Financial and Fiscal Commission is an independent, permanent, and statutory institution that makes recommendations to Parliament, provincial legislatures, and any other organ of State determined by national legislation, with a focus on the equitable division of nationally collected revenue among the three spheres of government and any other financial and fiscal matters.

Education Dr Mbava holds a PhD: Public and Development Management from Stellenbosch University an MBA from Stellenbosch University Business School as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Smith College in Massachusetts, in the US.
She was the top matric learner in 1991. In her early years she received a school bursary from the African Scholar Fund.
Brand Ambassador As an MBA alumnus of Stellenbosch Business School and who also received her PhD in Public and Development Management from Stellenbosch University, Nombeko is the brand ambassador of the Alumni Association Future Fund. This initiative aims to raise funds to support deserving prospective students at the business school.
