Draft:PANE- Physics Academy of the North East


The Physics Academy of the North East is the largest science academy in northeast India.This is one of the region's oldest academies. The Academy was founded on November 11, 1997, at IIT Guwahati, by a gathering of eminent physicists from Northeast India to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the electron. Prof. K. M. Pathak (founding Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University) and Y. V. G. S. Murti (founding Head of the Department of Physics at IIT Guwahati) were among those in attendance. The PANE was formally launched by the well-known educationist and physicist, late Professor G. C. Deka at IIT Guwahati on April 6, 1998, at an event led by Dr. D. N. Buragohain, the then director of the institute. The main HQ of the academy was at IIT Guwahati.
