Background edit

According to the liner notes of the Dare to Be Stupid album, Yankovic was preparing to write songs for the album when his then-girlfriend at the time broke up with him. In order to get over the breakup, Yankovic wrote a humorous about his anger towards the break-up which eventually turned into this song.[2]

Lyrics edit

The lyrics talk about very unrealistic things that someone would do after a breakup

Things mentioned in order edit

Pulling their name out of a Rolodex

Tearing the pictures of them apart

Burning down a malt shop

Eating shards of broken glass

Leaving himself at the “gas station of love”

Getting a hundred thousand papercuts on his face

Ripping his intestines out with fork

Slaming his fingers in a door

Letting his blood get sucked out by leeches

Shoving an ice pick under a toe nail or two

Cleaning all the toilets in Grand Central Station with his tongue

Jumping naked onto a pile of thumbtacks

Sticking his nostrils together with Krazy Glue

Diving into a swimming pool filled with double-edged razor blades

Ripping his heart right out of his ribcage with his bare hands and then throwing it right onto the floor and stomping on it until he dies

"Weird Al" Yankovic’s thoughts on the song. edit

Al said that it was still one of his favorites in the Permanent Record: Al In The Box booklet.[3]

Release on compilation albums edit

Music video edit

Directed by Jay Levey and Robert K. Weiss, Weird Al is shown dancing while doing things such as ripping pictures of his actual ex-girlfriend at the time in half, Slaming one of his hands in a door over and over again, and ripping his “heart” (not an actual heart) out of his ribcage and throwing it right onto the ground before putting his head down as a light shaped like a heart shines below onto him as the video ends.
