Oktagon MMA is a Czechoslovak organization organizing tournaments in mixed martial arts (MMA) in Czech Republic, Slovakia, from June 2022 also in Germany and from November 2023 also in the Great Britain. Its founders and owners are Ondřej Novotný and Pavol Neruda.[1] The organization organized the first tournament on December 10, 2016 in Prague. Currently, the organization has organized more than 55 tournaments in 6 years. Every year, the organization also prepares a sports reality show from the world of combat sports called Oktagon Challenge.
History edit
The Oktagon MMA organization made itself known for the first time in 2016 when it started filming the Oktagon Challenge reality show, in which 8 fighters (4 from the Czech Republic and 4 from Slovakia) fought on the model of the American reality show The Ultimate Fighter for a contract with the organization and €10,000 . The challenge culminated on December 10, 2016 at the first-ever Oktagon 1 tournament, which took place in Prague's Sports Hall Královka, where the final of the first series of the Oktagon Challenge was won by the Slovak fighter Gábor Boráros, who defeated Jakub Běle after less than 4 minutes of the 1st round via submission (RNC).
During the following months, the organization began to organize tournaments in other cities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and for the first time showed up at the iconic Štvanice Stadium in the center of Prague. A significant moment was the signing of a contract with Karlos Vémola, the first Czech athlete to ever join the UFC.
Oktagon Underground edit
The covid situation in 2020 affected everything and everyone. Combat sports included. The Oktagon MMA organization had to cancel the tournament originally scheduled for March for this reason. The founders of the organization therefore came up with the unique Oktagon Underground project during the Covid lockdown. The first Oktagon Underground was a series of 7 tournaments in which male and female wrestlers competed in several weight classes under modified rules. These were exclusively bouts in the stance, but in which the fight could be transferred to the ground with a takedown. There, after 3 seconds of active control, the takedown was recognized as successful and the fight returned to the stance. Submissions and standing likes were also allowed.
Tipsport Gamechanger edit
The biggest project in the history of Oktagon MMA and the biggest project ever to take place on the European stage. In the pyramid, a total of 16 elite athletes of the welterweight division (weight category up to 77.1 kg) will face each other. In total, the sixteen fighters will divide among themselves rewards in the amount of one million euros. The absolute winner of the four-round elimination tournament will receive 300,000 euros, the first losers will receive 15,000 euros.[2]

Tipsport Gamechanger 2023 edit
Tipsport Gamechanger 2023 started with the first round at the Oktagon 40 tournament, which took place on March 4 in Ostrava's Ostravar Arena. In the first year, 16 athletes participated, 15 were directly nominated by organizations, the sixteenth fighter came from a fan vote on the official website (the participation was decided between the Spanish MMA fighter Tato Primera and the representative of Montenegro, Miloš Janičić). After the first round, the winners chose their opponents for the next round as part of the live broadcast, thus determining the placement in the tournament for the semi-final fights and the final battle.
