edit

"NERV’s sound can be described as cinematic where True Detective, David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino meets jazz, progressive rock and trip hop”, with groovy and aural details" (John Cloud, Bark At Your Owner).

NERV is known to be inspired by filmmakers such as Sergio Leone and cinematic composers such as Ennio Morricone. In their progressive rock references such as Pink Floyd David Gilmour can be heard. NERV often uses trumpets in the style of Miles Davis and Herb Alpert. Nervs typical guitarsound is made by using a Guild connected to a vintage Binson Echo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binson_Echorec, contrabass and a Mini Moog Voyager https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimoog_Voyager . Other vintage effects such as EMT 140, Lexicon reverb 224X480 can also be heard. The mastering technique is described as vintage airy and dynamic and not as compressed as modern music.
