Nandita Dinesh is a theatre practitioner/researcher, educator and author.

In 2015, Nandita began writing extensively about her work in Kashmir, an Applied Theatre project that began as part of her doctoral degree at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. [1] [2] [3]

Early Life, Education, Career edit

Nandita Dinesh grew up in Coimbatore. She was a Bharatanatyam dancer from the age of three and at 16, was awarded a scholarship to attend UWC Mahindra College (2000-2002). Dinesh later returned to teach at UWC Mahindra College (2011-2014), UWC Dilijan (2015), and UWC-USA (2015-2018). [4].

In addition to her PhD from the University of Cape Town (2015), Dinesh holds a BA in Theatre & Economics from Wellesley College (2002-2006) [5], and an MA in Performance Studies from the Tisch School of Arts at New York University (2007-2008) [6].

Between 2006 and 2007 Dinesh was awarded a Watson Fellowship to explore the role of theatre in conflict and post-conflict zones [7] [8], taking her to Guatemala, northern Ireland, & Rwanda.

Dinesh is currenty the Dean of Academic Administration at Mount Tamalpais College, serving incarcerated students inside San Quentin State Prison.[9] [10]

Research & Writing edit

Since 2016 Dinesh has been writing extensively and in a range of genres. Her work includes academic books on Applied Theatre & Creative Writing, [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18], plays [19] [20], a novel [21], and essays/articles [22] [23] [24]

In 2017, Dinesh was awarded the Elliott Hayes Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dramaturgy from the Literary Managers & Dramaturs of America [25] and her work has been highlighted in forums that include The Hindu [26] [27] [28] the Santa Fe Reporter [29], the Times of India [30], the Deccan Chronicle [31], and the San Francisco Chronicle [32].
