Nana Yaw Boadu (born 6 September 1978, Mim, Ahafo) is a Ghanaian politician who works at the Office of the President.[1]

Early life and education

edit

Nana Yaw Boadu attended Mim Timber Company (MTC) school at Mim in the Ahafo Region and Obuasi Senior High Technical School. He then pursued HND Mechanical Engineering at the Kumasi Technical University and later graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a Bsc degree in Mechanical Engineering.[1]

Career

edit

Since 2017, Boadu has served at the Office of Ghana's President.[2][3]

Ghana, an agrarian economy which is the second largest world producer of cocoa beans, has experienced a drastic decline in Cocoa output due to illegal mining activities.[4]

After his appointment as the leader of special monitoring and evacuation, Boadu led the Operation Vanguard, for the arrest of illegal miners regardless of their Political affiliation and the seizure of all illegal mining machinery in Ghana's forest.[5]

Boadu's personal commitment towards environmental conservation, blinded him to political colours when it came to arresting culprits of illegal mining. In Ghana, fighting against illegal mining was seen as a fight against the political establishment.[6][7]

A series of arrests led by Boadu infuriated the illegal mining cabal which led to false accusations against the Operation Vanguard's outfit and the subsequent arrest of Boadu himself on false charges.[8]

Boadu is set to represent the Asunafo North constituency in the legislative body as the member of parliament to be able to get the necessary laws to protect the environment being destroyed by the Galamsey operators.[9][10][11]
