Music Video Tour 2010–2017 (Japanese pronunciation: [mʲɯꜜːdʑikɯ biꜜdeo tsɯꜜaː niseꜜɲjɯꜜː kaꜜɾa niseꜜɲjɯꜜːnaꜜna]) is a music video compilation album by Japanese singer-songwriter and musician Gen Hoshino.

Background and overview

edit

Music Video Tour 2010–2017 was released in both DVD and Blu-ray formats.[1][2] It is a collection of thirteen of Hoshino's music videos from "Kuse no Uta" (2010) to "Koi (2016), functioning similarly to a greatest hits album.[3][4] It is intersected by sections of Hoshino discussing anecdotes to the videos and their filming, such as the process to his earlier low-budget videos, the reasoning to bringing choreography into his music with "Yume no Soto e" and "Bakemono", and the switch in approach after his diagnosis of subarachnoid hemorrhage.[4] Dancers Shigehiro Ide [ja] (choreographer for "Yume no Soto e" and "Bakemono") and Mikiko ("Sun", "Tokiyo", "Koi") feature as guests on certain talk sections.[3] It includes the award-winning videos for "Bakemono", "Why Don't You Play in Hell?", "Crazy Crazy", and "Sun".[5] The second disc, navigating by Hoshino's alter ego character Akira Nise, includes behind-the-scenes filming footage and bonus music videos to "Kisetsu" and "Gag". The cover art was created by illustrator Shigehiro Ide [ja] and depicts a toilet paper holder with a roll of photographic film.[3]
