In July 2022, Milton Keynes Dons began the season under Head Coach Liam Manning. Manning and the Dons were heading into the season off the back of a promotion chasing season, of which the squad included young talents whom moved onto other clubs higher in the football pyramid, such as Scott Twine, Harry Darling and the Dons’ produce David Kasumu. On Saturday 30th July, the Dons opened their season by travelling away to Cambridge United Football Club. Statistically, the game was fairly even, however, the U’s came out on top as they beat the Dons 1-0, thanks to Harvey Knibbs who scored in the 17th minute at the Abbey Stadium. In August 2022, Manning’s men competed in both league and cup competitions. The Dons opened the month on Saturday 6th August where they suffered home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club at Stadium MK as the hosts lost 1-0, thanks to a 22nd minute penalty from Josh Windass. On Tuesday 9th August, the Dons hosted Sutton United in the EFL Trophy, fortunately for the Dons, they gained their first win of the season as they won 1-0 thanks to a 41st minute goal from the Irish youngster Conor Grant. On Saturday 13th August, the Dons returned to EFL League One action as the Dons travelled to Portman Road to play against Ipswich Town Football Club. The tractor boys came out on top as they put 3 goals past the Dons in a rather dominant affair. The goals came from Wes Burns, Marcus Harness and Conor Chaplin.
