Mehndi Wala Ghar (transl. The Henna House) is an Indian Hindi-language television drama series that premiered on 23 January 2024 on Sony Entertainment Television and digitally streams on Sony LIV. Produced by Sumeet Mittal and Shashi Mittal under Shashi Sumeet Productions, the series stars Shruti Anand and Shehzad Shaikh.[1][2]

Plot

The Agarwal family is a joint family that lives in Ujjain and is know by the Mehndi tree of their courtyard. Janaki is the head of the family and everyone including her husband Hari, his brother Narayan, their children Ajay, Vijay, Manoj, Manisha and Akshay follows and respect her.

When, Manoj decides to go against his family to marry his love Ajanta, the family break. Manoj leaves the house with Ajanta, followed by Vijay, his wife Tanvi and Ajay and his wife Swara. Janaki decides to never allow them back into her house.

24 years later, Manoj regrets his decision to leave the house and wants Janaki's forgiveness. Mauli, a doctor and his daughter-in-law decides to unite him with his family.

Mehndi Wala Ghar is produced by Shashi Mittal and Sumeet Hukamchand Mittal under their banner Shashi Sumeet Productions. The series centres upon the life and struggles of a joint family.[3][4]

Casting

Mehra returns to television after four years.

Shruti Anand was cast to play a doctor, Mauli. On her character, Anand said, "I play Mauli, a positive and caring girl. Mauli believes in bringing the family together and being with each other during the ups and downs. All in all, I am quite enjoying playing this character as Mauli is pure and beautiful in and out."[5][6]

Shehzad Shaikh was cast as Rahul, a restauranter. On his role, Shaikh added, "My character Rahul is a very kind-hearted, fun-loving extrovert, and a no-nonsense person with his own set of beliefs when it comes to family; hence it makes for a challenging yet fulfilling role to portray."[7][8]

Karan Mehra was cast as Manoj, marking his return to fiction after four years.[9][10] Vibha Chibber was cast as the family head, Janaki and Kanwarjeet Paintal was cast as her husband Hari. Ramakant Dayma was cast as Narayan, Manoj's father. Reema Worah was cast as Ajanta, opposite Mehra.[11]

Ravi Gossain, Rushad Rana and Arpit Kapoor were cast as the other brother, while Gunn Kansara, Khalida Jan and Ushma Rathod were cast opposite them, respectively.[12][13] Later, Raghav Gosain was cast to play Vaibhav, Rahul's brother.[14] In May 2024, Sushmita Singh was cast to play Rati, opposite Shaikh.[15] In June 2024, Hiten Paintal was cast to play Amit, a municipal officer.[16]

Filming

The series is set in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. It is mainly shot at the Film City, Mumbai. Some initial sequences were shot in Ujjain and at the Mahakaleshwar Temple.[17][18]
