MKM Building Supplies is a UK builder's merchant based in Kingston upon Hull. Founded in 1995, the company has over 120 branches across the country.[3][4]
History
editOn 12 September 1995, close friends David Kilburn and Peter Murray co-founded MK Building Supplies Ltd.[1][5] The company's name would be altered less than two weeks later to become MKM Building Supplies Ltd, a name which has since remained unchanged.[1] The first business the company made was providing plumbing and heating supplies to caravan manufacturers.[6] Murray sold his company shares in 2006, whilst Kilburn has continued to run MKM to this day.[6]
On 19 June 2023, Kilburn was awarded a CBE by King Charles III in his inaugural Birthday Honours list for his services to the construction industry and charity.[7] A few months later, on 22 November 2023, Kilburn received the 'Outstanding Contribution to Business' award at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards.[5]
The company have been associated with the originally named KC Stadium in Hull since its opening in December 2002.[8] However, on 25 June 2021, it was announced that MKM had bought the exclusive naming rights for the 25,586 capacity venue, home to two of the city's top sports teams.[8]
