Lycée Jacques Prévert de Longjumeau is a general and technological senior high school located at 23 rue Jules Ferry in Longjumeau, Essonne, France. Created in March 1977, the lycée was completely renovated from 2017 to 2019.

It accommodates 980 students from seconde to terminale[1], in the general and technological streams (STMG - Sciences et Technologies du Management et de la Gestion - Management Sciences and Technologies), and around 100 students in the Section de Technicien Supérieur CG (Comptabilité et Gestion - Accounting and General Management)[2] and SAM (Support à l'Action Managériale - a training programme for future management assistants), under school[3] or apprentice status[4], preparing a two-year BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur - Advanced Technician's Certificate).

The curriculum includes 4 modern languages, 9 specialties in the general stream, 3 specific courses in the STMG final year, and 9 electives[5].

History of the lycée edit

The Lycée was named after the French surrealist poet Jacques Prévert, who died in 1977[6], the year when the school was founded[7].

From 2017 to 2019, the school was completely renovated to a high environmental quality standard[8][9]. The renovation project included a restructuring and extension of the Lycée, and enabled the creation of an amphitheater, a Documentation and Information Center (CDI) and a reorganization of the half-board facilities.

Prior to their renovation, during the summer of 2012, the Lycée's premises were used as the setting for the hit movie Les Profs[10]. The film is known as Serial Teachers in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States of America[11]. The exterior scenes were shot in the courtyard of the neighboring Jules Ferry school, and the interior scenes in the Lycée. 80 young people from Longjumeau, Saulx-les-Chartreux and Ballainvilliers, including some school students, took part in the shooting as extras.

Curriculum edit

Pre-baccalaureate courses and electives edit

Core curriculum edit

Students at the Lycée can choose between 4 modern languages, including Italian.

Students in the first and last years of the general stream can choose their specialties from among the 9 offered at the school[12], including "rare" specialties such as Spanish Literature and Culture (LLCER Espagnol) or Digital Technology and Computer Sciences (NSI).

The Lycée offers its students in the STMG final year a choice of 3 specific courses: Marketing, Management and Finance or Human Resources and Communication.

Electives edit

In their first year (classe de seconde), students can choose from various electives, among which Plastic Arts, Physical Education, Management and Health and Social Sciences.

Terminale students in the general and technological streams can study DGEMC (Droit et Grands Enjeux du Monde Contemporain) where they learn about the law and the major challenges facing today's world.

Post-baccalaureate programmes edit

The lycée offers two Sections de Technicien Supérieur (STS): Comptabilité et Gestion (CG - Accounting and General Management), and Support à l'Action Managériale (SAM - A training programme for future management assistants).

Students' parents edit

Members of the PEEP federation (Parents d'Elèves de l'Enseignement Public) sit on the school's Board of Directors. They also represent families during teachers'conferences, and take part in various school events.

Famous alumni edit

Jean-Luc Lemoine edit

French comedian Jean-Luc Lemoine was a student at the Lycée Jacques Prévert, in the science stream (bac C). He tried out his first sketch in front of an audience of 900, at the school's end-of-year party[13][14], in the late 1980s.

Emilie Pigeard edit

French director Emilie Pigeard was a student at the Lycée Prévert in the late 1990s, in the economics and social sciences stream (bac ES). In 2023, she was awarded the César for best animated short movie, for her film La Vie Sexuelle de Mamie[15]. The film, entitled Granny's Sexual Life[16] in English, was co-directed by Emilie Pigeard and Slovenian director Urška Djukić.

Emilie Pigeard returned to the school in November 2023, to give a talk to a hundred and thirty students[17]. During the talk, she told the students about her school career, pointing out that her arrival at the Lycée Prévert, after starting out in a private high school, had enabled her to overcome her school phobia[18] and regain self-confidence[19].
