Lorenzo Raganzini (born July 13, 1990) is an Italian techno DJ and producer. He is known for his contributions to the development of a genre called "TechnoMetal", which combines elements of industrial techno with heavy metal and rock influences. Lorenzo is one of the co-founders of the HEX Techno Movement, an influential collective within the techno community.[1][2][3]

Early life and career edit

Lorenzo Raganzini is a DJ and producer born in Treviso, Italy. In 2014, he moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he noticed an opportunity to contribute to the Techno scene with his unique musical style characterized by dark industrial tones and a specific dance floor vibe. He started his career as a DJ, and later ventured into production, presenting his distinct musical vision.[4]

Raganzini gained recognition in the city with his professional debut at the Macarena Club in Barcelona, where his style garnered attention.[4] It was during this event that he met Paolo Ferrara, and together they co-founded HEX Barcelona in 2014.[4] Initially conceived as just an event, HEX Barcelona evolved into a techno movement encompassing various artistic elements such as music, photography, visuals, art, design, and clothing.[5] Through HEX, they create diverse experiences, ranging from club nights to art exhibitions and experimental sound shows, while fostering an inclusive and expressive environment for the audience.[5]

Over the years, Raganzini's talent has led him to perform internationally at well-known venues like Khidi in Tbilisi, Kit Kat in Berlin, Club Basis in Utrecht, Kompass in Gent, and Bootshaus in Kˆln. He has also participated in notable festivals such as Tomorrowland in Belgium, Nature One in Germany, Verknipt in Amsterdam and Utrecht, Soenda in Utrecht, Rotterdam Rave, DGTL Barcelona, Mayday Dortmund, HIVE Ferropolis, and World Club Dome Frankfurt.

Together with Paolo, Lorenzo has expanded the influence of the HEX Techno movement to multiple countries and continents, organizing events in cities such as Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Sydney, Bogota, Antwerp, Tbilisi, Kiev, Istanbul, and more.

In 2019, Raganzini and Ferrara launched HEX Recordings, the official label of the HEX Techno movement.[6] The label's debut release, "HEX001 | Omala Kcohs," featured a digital and vinyl production by Lorenzo Raganzini and Paolo Ferrara, alongside remixes by several notable artists in the industry.[6] Additionally, a documentary detailing the creation of this first release is available on YouTube.

In both 2020 and 2021, Lorenzo Raganzini has performed two Boiler Room nights in Barcelona, in collaboration with HEX.[7]

Musical style and influence edit

Lorenzo Raganzini's sets are influenced by a range of genres, including Acid, EBM, New Wave, as well as his background in Rock and Heavy Metal music.[8] His intention to fuse Techno with Rock and Metal inspired the creation of a new music genre, which he and Paolo Ferrara named TechnoMetal.

The inception of this genre can be directly linked to the release of the "XXX001 | Lockdown Era" EP (HEX Recordings, 2021), which introduced the audience to the first glimpses of this innovative musical concept. The subsequent release, "HEX009 | Anarock 19" EP (HEX Recordings, 2022), further solidified Raganzini's dedication to TechnoMetal. The title of this release cleverly incorporates both "rock" and "corona 19" to signify its production during the lockdown, symbolizing Lorenzo's rebellion during a challenging time for the music industry.

In 2023, "This is TechnoMetal" - (HEX Recordings, 2023) was unveiled, serving as a track designed to exemplify Raganzini and Ferrara's vision of TechnoMetal, both musically and philosophically.

Since its inception, TechnoMetal has garnered increasing interest from a growing number of artists who seek to blend Techno with Metal. HEX Recordings stands as the main label championing TechnoMetal and supporting all artists exploring this genre.

Discography edit

Raganzini's discography showcases a regular release of tracks and EPs, published on his own label HEX Recordings and other labels, both in vinyl and digital formats.[9] Initially characterized by dark and mysterious elements, his music has evolved into the genre of TechnoMetal, where he incorporates guitars, distorted sounds, and vocal screams into his productions.[10] Lorenzo's musical repertoire spans from epic melodies to experimental sounds, as well as more straight-to-the-floor tracks.

One noteworthy production is the anthem "Raving in Paris" (2019, HEX Recordings), which left a mark on a specific year, capturing the essence of the Parisian electronic music scene through its sound and renowned videoclip.

His latest release, "This is TechnoMetal" (2023, HEX Recordings), serves as a testament to Lorenzo's unwavering commitment to his newly crafted music genre, TechnoMetal.
