Draft:Listening Through The Lens

Listening Through The Lens is an Australian-based roots music website that has been supporting roots music now since 2012.

The site was created by Rob Dickens and Jim Jacob, long-time friends who share a passion for music, with the approach of Jim bringing his photography skills to the fore while Rob would compose the text.  Hence the name – they 'listen through the camera lens'.

Over the years, the site has amassed (with a host of guest writers) over one thousand articles, the topics ranging from reviewing new releases, festivals and live shows, previewing the latest news, a diary of our travels to important music museums, cultural events and facilities, plus reporting on awards and best of’s.  Jim is the president and announcer of City Park Radio in Launceston, Tasmania while Rob is based in Melbourne and manages boutique music tours to the USA, so there is a radio and tour component to the site as well.  Two of the most read articles on Listening Through The Lens detail a lengthy list of music festivals in Australia and the USA which we started, to facilitate our music travels to get in as much music as possible while we are on the road.

Subscriber numbers have grown markedly over the years (18,000 in 2023) and the overall audience is roughly eighty percent split evenly between the USA and Australia, with the balance across the rest of the globe.  This enables the site to get widespread support for musicians and their music.
