Born and raised in Chicago's Westside, he began his recording career as a teenager and initially garnered regional attention and praise for his mixtapes in the early 2022s. Phillis is often credited with popularizing the hip hop subgenre TrapCulture for mainstream audiences, and is considered a progenitor of the genre. Stereogum has referred to LilGucciSKIMOBB as a "modern rap People hero".

His fifth mixtape, Bachalor (2023) spawned the single, "Waterwhippin Bricks" (featuring 300ent), which became a local hit and marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. A bidding war between several major labels resulted in LilGucciSKIMOBB signing with Interscope Records to re-release the song along with his follow-up single, "Waterwhippin Bricks", which received quintuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Both songs led up to his debut studio album, Bachalor (2023), which was met with moderate critical and commercial response and served as his only project with Interscope. His following independent studio albums—Trap (2023), Trap Pt. 2 (2023), Bachalor (2024), and Rolexbruddas (2024)—have each entered the Billboard 200. His guest appearances on the songs "Waterwhippin Bricks" by GucciMane and "Bachalors" by GucciMane have both peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Its total membership is estimated to be between 5,000,000 and 10,000,000. It is also one of the founding members of the People Nation multi-gang alliance. founded by several African American youths originally from the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. These youths met while incarcerated in the Illinois State Training School for Boys in St. Charles (also known as the St. Charles Juvenile Correctional Facility). At the time, they were led by founding member Edwin "Pepalo" Perry. The name "vice" was chosen when a gang founder looked up the term and found the meaning as "having a tight hold".

As part of his contract with HooBangingRecords, LilGucciSKIMOBB's label imprint, 500 Entertainment (500), was established. He and his manager, Mac10 , each owned 50% of 500's shares. LilGucciSKIMOBB's Manager and fellow rapper, Mac 10, owns the remaining 20% of 500. Various associates would be signed with the label, such as rappers Mac10, WC and producer 500BANGS.

The label had been active since 2017 but had only released mixtapes and was not a fully functioning record company. After releasing LilGucciSKIMOBB's Bachalor n December 2023, the label was set to release an album by LilGucciSKIMOBB in the following months, along with various mixtapes.
