About her artistic work

edit

Late bloomer, installation (2006):

"In her installations, Lihi Chen creates surreal fantastic environments on the seam between illusion and reality. These environments - real but fabricated, concrete but dream-like, function as carriers of rich emotional and romantic poetic meanings. The artist makes use of familiar images, diverts them to a new fictional context and charges them with metaphorical meanings..."

Tammy Katz-Freeman, from: Catalog "Fatamorgana, illusion and mirage in contemporary art". Haifa Museum of Art, 2006.

Love me two times, solo exhibition (2013):

"By using found objects, collected or in her possession, by handling ready-made and by means of manual craft impersonating ready-made, Lihi Chen creates a deceptive domestic space. The viewer is granted a few seconds to be charmed of the beauty before he feels the strangeness of the familiar situation, and the tension created between the real object and the "artistic" one that Chen produces herself.''

Ruthie Director, from "From the Ready, 100 Years of Ready-Made", catalog, Haifa Art Museum .

Golden Hands, 2018:

"Besides the artistic action, Chen inserts into the creative processes the virtuosity of the skilled craftsman, the mechanical work force of the industrial machine and the production line, and the perfection of the digital simulation. Forces that operate in the exhibition at the same time, and to a certain extent compete with each other for the premier."

Maya Shimony, from the text "Life Like" for the exhibition [1]
