Lakhvinder Singh (Born 21 October, 1974) is an Indian film writer and director working in Rajasthani Cinema. He is also the founder and owner of LS Films, co-founder of NK Mittal & LS Films Private Limited. He is also the founder of the mega initiative Rajasthan Cine Mahotsav, which is an annual event where filmmakers, producers, artists, technicians of rajasthani cinema gather and celebrate the work done in past, and plan and talk on what steps to take ahead to make rajasthani cinema grow.
Childhood
editLakhvinder Singh was born on 21 October, 1974 in Gurdaspur District of Punjab. His father Joginder Singh was in Indian Air Force, and his mother Savinder Kaur was housewife. He studied in Kendriya Vidyalay, Jamnagar until 1998.
Ealry Career
editLakhvinder Singh started his film career as an assistant director with TV Director Arun Frank. In his early career he worked on TV Shows like Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, Ujaala, Miilee, Zindagi Teri Meri Kahani, Suraag - The Clue, Aangan, Thriller at 10 and many more with different directors.
Migration to Rajasthani Cinema
editIn 2008, Lakhvinder Singh visited Rajasthan to shoot his rajasthani feature as writer & director, Maher Karo Paplaj Mata. It was a time when every regional director wanted to go to Mumbai to work. Lakhvinder Singh felt like Rajasthani Cinema needed an experienced director working continously to keep it alive.
Released Projects
editIn 2011, Lakhvinder Singh released his first rajasthani feature film, Maati Ka Laal Meena Gurjar[1]. It was the first movie to be released in single-screen cinemas after almost 25 years. His next release Maher Karo Paplaj Maata was also released in 2011. His third feature Bhawari[2][3] saw housefull advance booking in Jaipur's Polovictory Cinema Hall and was released in 2012. His next feature Hukum[4] was released in 2014. It was first rajasthani film to be released on 70 screens on the same day. It recieved award for Best Director, Best Actor Debut Male, Best Actor Female, Best Actor in Negative role Female in Rajasthan Film Awards 2015[5] and for Best Cinematographer in Rajasthan International Film Festival 2015. His second project of 2014 was Tandav[6]. His next project Kajrali Nakhrali[7][8] which was released in 100+ cinemas. After 6 back to back successful releases, Lakhvinder Singh saw a long wait for his next release. His latest release was Majo Aa Gayo was released in 2022.[9][10][11][12][13]
Upcoming Projects
editLakhvinder Singh has started a new initiative called Thar Kahaniyan where he takes a pool of artists, technicians and producers to create new content for Rajasthani Cinema and introduce new talent to the industry. First season of it saw 13 short stories, already shot and expected to be released in 2024. Second season of Thar Kahaniyan was announced in late 2023 with a massive pool of 200+ artists and technicians, who will work on 25 projects starting February 2024. He has also been working on a horror film Farm House, also expected to release in 2024.
Rajasthan Cine Mahotsav
editIn 2023, Lakhvinder Singh founded Rajasthan Cine Mahotsav[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22] a 4 Days Event where all the members of Rajasthani Cinema gathered and celebrated the Rajasthani Cinema with competitions for new talent and award show for the filmmakers. In this grand event of Rajasthani Cinema, artists, filmmakers, directors, producers and technicians of the cinema gathered together praised Lakhvinder Singh for working for the betterment of the Rajasthani Cinema and gave him their support.
