Draft:Killing of Payton Wasson

On June 24, 2023, Payton Wasson, a 22-year-old man, was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop in Boise, Idaho, United States.[1] The killing led to a protest organized by Black Lives Matter[2] and an internal investigation by the Boise Police Department into the incident.

Shooting edit

At around 1 a.m., police were investigating an unoccupied vehicle parked near the corner of 5th Street and Main Street. Police believed the vehicle and its owner, Mario Garza, to be involved with "gang activity and/or narcotic sales." Garza, Wasson, and another individual returned to the vehicle and were contacted by the police officers. Wasson left the vehicle with a firearm and began to flee the scene on foot as officers ordered him to stop. Officer Chance Feldner drew a firearm and shot Wasson in the head. Wasson was administered first aid by police and was transported to the hospital, where he died approximately 9 hours after being shot.
