Childhood edit
Truong was born on July 10, 2001 in Houston, Texas. Her father is Man Truong and her mother is Katherine Nguyen, both of whom are Vietnamese living in the US. Kayleigh is the eldest child; she has a twin sister named Kaylynne Truong and a younger brother, Jonathan.[5]
The Truongs were 2 years old when they first discovered basketball. Their mother Katherine said one day Kayleigh found one of their father’s basketballs in the garage and started dribbling it around the house.
Being twins and having a natural competitive nature to them, it did not take long for Kaylynne to follow her sister’s example. In the seventh grade, the Truongs decided to become more serious about their interest in basketball.[6]
“We were really serious about this option when we went to the summer tournament and the coach told our parents that we might have a chance to get a scholarship and pay for our tuition through basketball. When we knew that, we thought we had to work really hard to be able to support our parents in college. I know how much it costs to go to college, and got it as our return to our parents for the hard work and time they put in for us to practice and participate in tournaments. Kayleigh Truong shared in an article with The Gonzaga Bulletin.[7]
