Julia B. Chan is an American journalist and the current editor-in-chief of The 19th, an independent, nonprofit newsroom reporting at the intersection of gender, politics, and policy.[1]

She is committed to exploring gender experiences and inequalities in America in ways that engage audiences, inspire action, and hold the powerful accountable. Julia has won awards for innovation in digital and investigative journalism and has been honored for her dedication to building community. She is also the vice president of civic engagement for the Asian American Journalists Association and a founder of the Journalists of Color Slack. Before joining The 19th, she held newsroom leadership positions at KQED in the Bay Area, Mother Jones, Reveal for the Center for Investigative Reporting, and the San Francisco Examiner. She is a proud alumna of San Francisco State University and Foothill College.
