John Robinson is an American comic writer and publisher. In 2016 he created his blog, IVWall which was focused on geek culture, primarily being comic books. IVWall was later converted into an LLC and publishing company under which he published his first and best-known ongoing comic series, Scorpio.

Early Life edit

John Robinson IV was Born in Fort Wainright, AK. His parents were military and as such he moved around often. He got into reading comics at a young age and his fascination with them had been fostered ever since. He went on to attend Morehouse College and joined the military working in IT. He continued this career after the military and started his blog where he took a new, serious approach to writing.

Career edit

Though he began writing seriously in the early 2010s, John's work began to take serious turns toward professionalism about 5 years later. The blog IVWall focused on nerd and geek culture from the perspective of an African American an his article "Why Blerd?"[1] This explored why he opted for that term versus the ethnically neutral terms, like "Nerd." This gained traction and readers started flocking to his blog where he went on to write about comics, writing,  and did interviews with creatives about their craft.

Briefly, he and a team of a few others came together to run a comic journalism site called Do You Even Comic Book, which later took on the name Comic Horizon. However, this was short-lived due to some struggles with workflow and time, and eventually, John tabled this to focus his non-day job hours fully on family and writing.

He first published Stay Woke,  a 9-page short comic in CORPUS: An Anthology of Bodily Ailments[2], which explored being black with insomnia. He then went on to write several smaller stories but eventually began self-publishing his comic, Scorpio, which is a series about 12 ancient relics that are empowered by the astrological Zodiac signs. This series began to gain much of its traction with the release of the compiled Vol. 1 with notable articles written, and interviews at conventions for the local news.[3][4][5]

Since then, he's gone on to write more stories such as Kamikaze Min/Max in the Kamikaze Short Circuits[6] Anthology as well as short prose such as The World a Two Ends which won second place in a short story contest[7] run by Black Hole Entertainment. John has also become an editor for comics, a comics letterer, and runs a writing podcast called Beyond the IVWall of Writing[8] where he interviews writers of all mediums about their craft. This is supplemented by a Twitter Chat run every Wednesday at 6 PM via Twitter Spaces.

John currently has several other writing projects in the works.
