John Marx is a San Francisco-based American architect. He is co-founder and Chief Artistic Officer of the firm Form4 Architecture, established in 1998.[1][2] He is a winner of the 2017 American Prize for Architecture[3][4][5] from the Chicago Athenaeum and the 2021 John Gates Percival International Prize for Literature from the Galena International Poetry Festival.[6]

Marx has written extensively on the topics of design theory,[7] especially on digital design,[8][9] placemaking in cyberspace,[10][11][12][13] and the architecture of the metaverse.[14][15][16][17] Recently, he has explored the relationship of gender and architecture.[18][19][20]

He is known for his contributions to high-tech campuses and architecture of Silicon Valley. His design work includes VMware, Inc's Headquarters in Palo Alto,[21] Netflix, Inc's Headquarters in Los Gatos,[22] Nvidia's original Headquarters in Santa Clara,[23] Santa Clara University Dowd Arts Building in Santa Clara,[24] and the Gateway at Millbrae Station in Millbrae.[25][26][27]
