Justice John M. Maxwell

John M. Maxwell (1849 – YEAR) was an associate justice of the Colorado Supreme Court from 1905 to 1909.

John M. Maxwell of Leadville, a prominent attorney and one of the leaders of the Republican party in Colorado, will be Governor Peabody's private secretary. The announcement of his appointment was made last night by Mr. Peabody through State Chairman Fairley. Mr. [ Maxwell will begin his work within a few days and will help and advise Governor Peabody in the trying days of the establishment of the administration. Mr. Maxwell was invited by Mr. Peabody to take the position before the election and made the offer anything but conditional, and Mr. Maxwell was not able to decide until yesterday whether he would accept. John M. Maxwell was born in 1849, at Mansfield. Ohio, and Is fifty-three years old. He came to Colorado in 1876 and located at Leadville in the early days, building up a good practice there. He has been a leader in his party locally for the last twenty years, and is always a figure at state conventions. He is a strong personal friend of Governor Peabody, a Mason and a favorite socially.[1]
