Kassakian was a recipient of the IEEE Centennial Medal in 1984, an award to commemorate the centennial of IEEE's founding.[7] In the year 1987, Kassakian received the PELS William E. Newell Power Electronics Award, which is presented to an individual with the scope "for outstanding contributions to power electronics."[8][9] He was elevated to the Fellow of IEEE in 1989 with the citation mentioning "for contributions to education and research in power electronics."[10]

Kassakian was elected into the National Academy of Engineering, US, in the year 1994, with the election citation mentioning "for contribution to research, education, and industrial alliances in power electronics."[11] He was also awarded the IEEE PELS Distinguished Service Award in 1998 for the welfare of the PELS at an exceptional level of dedication and achievement.[12]

In 2024, PELS decided to acknowledge the profound legacy of Kasskian and commemorate his contributions to IEEE and PELS with a Luminaries Special Session at the ECCE 2024 at Phoenix, Arizona, US.[13]
