Early life and education edit

Jiang was born in Beijing, China. He came to the U.S. with the dream of being the next Bill Gates.[3] Despite early success in the corporate world, Jiang was trying to develop a social media to-do list app called Hooplus, when one of the major investors dropped out. His first attempt to pursue his entrepreneurial dream ended in rejection. After a period of deep self-doubt, Jiang decided to investigate that feeling and realized that his fear of rejection was a bigger obstacle than rejection itself, and he needed to find a way to cope with being told no without letting it destroy him.[4]

Jiang discovered Jason Comely’s website, rejectiontherapy.com, where he explained that he wanted to break the tyranny of social anxiety by designing a real-life game with just one rule: “One must be rejected by another person at least once, every single day. He created 30 daily challenges with getting rejected as the goal. Players had to ask a stranger for a free ride or ask for a discount when buying something. They would succeed by being denied, hopefully overcoming the pain of failure. Jiang liked the idea and took it 70 steps further, creating 100 challenges for himself.[5] “When I started, my goal was to say, ‘All right, I’ll get rejected and learn from the rejection to become tougher,’” he says. The questions he asked were straightforward but awkward, such as requesting a free night’s stay at a hotel or asking for a selfie with a stranger.[6]

As a result, the 100 Days of Rejection Experiment was developed,[7] during which Jiang willfully sought rejection on a daily basis, including his famous request to get Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the shape of Olympic rings, which went viral.[8]

Jiang holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Brigham Young University and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University.

Career edit

Entrepreneur

Jiang began his career in the corporate world, but later took a life-altering risk and stepped into entrepreneurship. He quit his six-figure job at the age of 30, just weeks before his first child was born.[9] Tackling everyone's biggest fear, rejection, was the catalyst that set Jiang on the path to his true calling.[10]

Jiang ultimately acquired Comely’s website, Rejection Therapy, which provides inspiration, knowledge, and products for people to overcome their fear of rejection. It is home to his personal blog and products and services to help people become fearless. Jiang is also the CEO of Wuju Learning, a company that teaches people and trains organizations to become fearless through rejection training.

Author

Jiang is the author of Rejection Proof: How I Beat Fear and Became Invincible Through 100 Days of Rejection.[11]

Jiang’s first speaking engagement was at a local chiropractic studio with about ten people. A month later, he presented at a company to an audience of 100 people.
