About

edit

Raised in Potomac, Maryland, Jessica was surrounded by a strong and supportive family. Her mother, actor and vocalist Lynda Carter, helped build a steadfast sense of self in the singer and her father, Robert A. Altman instilled a love for law and philanthropy.

After graduating from the University of Michigan, Altman followed along in her father's footsteps, attending law school at her alma mater.[7]

While at the University of Michigan Law School, she served as a volunteer mediator in small claims court and worked in the child welfare appellate clinic. Following law school, she began her legal career at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington D.C.[8]

Her desire to help others and be a voice for those who are often silenced propelled Jessica into working with organizations such as the Innocence Project[9] and DC Volunteer Lawyers Project.[10]

Altman was married in 2023. Her love story and wedding were profiled in The New York Times.[11]

Career

edit

Jessica Carter Altman released For You, in 2022. The four song EP is a cathartic glimpse into how the singer processed her grief following the passing of her father on tracks like "Lucky One, "Cherry Blossoms," and "For You."

Broadening the scope of her sound, Jessica released the pop single "Pieces[12]" in June 2023, which served as the lead single off of her EP Aftermath I, released in November 2023. The EP also includes tracks: "Aftermath," "Naive," and "Blood Moon." Aftermath I symbolizes the singer "picking up the pieces" following loss and finding strength to move forward.

The music "beautifully portrays her journey of resilience, piecing together fragments of her life after experiencing loss" writes British Thoughts Magazine.[13]

The second chapter, Aftermath II EP was released in the spring 2024, followed by her debut album, Aftermath, on June 14, 2024.[14]

When crafting her single "Aftermath," the singer embarked on a journey to explore the profound changes that follow in the wake of life-altering events. As Altman aptly puts it, "For better or for worse, life goes on, and you get to choose what your life will become. Only you can decide if you are going to let yourself be swallowed by the situation. While we can't change history, we possess the power to shape our future."

Altman's music explores difficult human emotions in a warm, and approachable way, through songs that feel like a conversation with a close friend. Singing with strength and vulnerability, Altman provides an inviting and supportive framework for listeners around themes of love and loss.

Jessica Carter Altman has collaborated with producer Jason Lehning, and musicians and songwriters Latifah Alattas and Palmer Lee in the studio. She's recorded at Blackbird Studios, Sound Emporium, and Love Hz in Nashville.
