J. W. Roth is an American entrepreneur. He is the chairman and founder of Notes Live, Inc., an independent live entertainment and hospitality company, and the founder and executive chairman of Roth Industries, LLC, a Colorado-based prepared foods company.[1] [2][3]
Early life edit
Roth was born in 1963 in Denver. A fifth generation native of Colorado, he grew up on a small ranch between Colorado Springs and Denver. He worked as a ranch hand in junior high school and sold firewood door-to-door as a teenager. He continued to pursue entrepreneurial interests following his high school graduation.[1]
Career edit
Roth took seven companies public prior to founding Roth Industries.[4] In 2014 he opened his first restauraunt, Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern,[5] and in 2016, to develop upscale entertainment venues in cities with growing populations and limited live music options, he founded Notes Live. In 2019 he opened Boot Barn Hall, a 1400-capacity live music venue adjacent to Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern.[6] He resigned as chairman and CEO of Roth Industries to focus on Notes Live in 2021. His son, Mitchell Roth, succeeded him as CEO of Roth Industries.[7]
In April 2022, Notes Live announced the development of The Sunset, a $40-million 8000-seat open-air amphitheater in Colorado Springs scheduled to open in 2023.[8] The development of a 4500-seat open-air amphitheater, The Sunset Music Colosseum on the Stones River, was announced in May 2022. A public-private partnership in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, it was also announced that the 18-acre entertainment complex would include a 1400-capacity Boot Barn Hall and a Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern.[9][10] Construction on an entertainment campus that covered a city block in Gainesville, Georgia began in July 2022.[11]
In October 2022, Roth was featured as an "All Star" in the live entertainment industry trade magazine, Venues Now.[12] The Sunset in Colorado Springs and the Sunset Music Coloseum on the Stones River appeared on the Billboard magazine list of Venues to Watch in 2022.[13]
