Ivan Ditmars was born on April 12, 1907 in Olympia, Washington, USA. He was a composer, musical director, and organist on hundreds of radio broadcasts in the golden era and continued work in television for Star Trek (1966), Star Trek Continues (2013) and Stars Over Hollywood (1950). For the Star Trek (1966) first season episode "The Squire of Gothos", he performed "Roses of the South" by Johann Strauss II, and two Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti on a harpsichord, which was dubbed in to William Campbell (Trelane) and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) playing the instrument. Later, he composed the Brahms paraphrase heard in the third season episode "Requiem for Methuselah". He was interviewed by Chuck Schaden at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, California shortly before a meeting of the Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters on May 17th, 1991. [2] [1] [2]
