The Ita-Askonas Award is a prize of the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) and the European Journal of Immunology (EJI). It acknowledges excellent women in immunology who have led an independent lab for at least four yours and a maximum of eight years. The prize-money is 20.000 Euro. The award was first granted in 2009, then every three years. It is formally conferred at the meeting of the European Congress of Immunology. Since 2023 it will be awarded annually. Nominations must be from the respective societies. The prize is named after the British immunologist Brigitte A. Askonas (called Ita Askonas).
