• Comment: Thanks for your submission! Unfortunately, I'm still not seeing evidence that the subject passes the notability guideline for musicians. Unless Koen meets any of criteria 2–12, there has to be significant coverage of her in reliable sources to demonstrate her notability. Additionally, there still some comments from the previous reviews that have yet to be addressed, such as the removal of unreliable sources: blogs, social media, and the like. Please act on this feedback before resubmitting for review. Let me know if you have any questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 07:59, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: Many of the sources including LinkedIn, SoundCloud and others and not reliable and must be removed. Other references are merely profiles, tours and unreliable stuff. The provided references do not talk about the subject in-depth. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 02:42, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Isabella Koen, also known professionally under the mononym Isabella, is an American electronic musician, DJ, composer, visual artist, and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island.[1] She has released music on multiple international record labels including Peder Mannerfelt Produktions,[2] iDEAL Records,[3] Mama Told Ya,[1] Osare Editions,[4] and Börft.[5] Her music draws from the industrial, drum and bass, trance, hardcore, and techno genres.[6][7][1]

She is an assistant professor in the Electronic Production & Design department at Berklee College of Music, where she teaches courses in electronic music performance and production.[1]

Career edit

Visual art edit

In 2015, Koen worked with multi-media artist Jesse Kaminsky, who is also her partner, on a project entitled: Touch This.[8] This public art installation was in collaboration with ILLUMINUSboston[9] and the Rhode Island School of Design. Touch This was installed under a portion of bleachers at Fenway Park, and consists of projected video, tin foil, and heavily altered pop music samples.[10] It was designed to be a multi-sensory, immersive experience.[11]

In 2019, Koen continued work with Jesse Kaminsky, as well as JoAnn Kaminsky, Hank Kaminsky, Daniel Kaminsky, and Damir Porobic in relation to an exhibit titled Kaminsky Family Show at the Fenix Gallery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.[12] The exhibit explored concepts pertaining to both family and home.[13]

Music edit

Koen releases music under her own name, both in full and by first name only.[14] She was profiled on djmag.com as one of "12 emerging artists you need to hear this February" in 2019.[15]

Her use of multiple electronic music genres on her debut album Melody Depleted was described as having "transpose[d] a sense of pre-millennial late '90s techno warehouse dread into a world dealing with its own register of worries".[16] Koen is a self-proclaimed "hardware gal" and in performance uses various electronic synthesizers including the Elektron Octatrack mk1, Elektron Rytm mk2, and the Access Virus C.[1]

Koen's performance and production work explores the intersection of technology and music, particularly in relation to electronic and experimental music. Her work is recognized for its interdisciplinary approach and its ability to connect historical and contemporary musical practices. Her performance with the Fridman Gallery investigated multiple genres of electronica to reflect "a desire to bring forth the practices and sounds that inform that spectrum of choices as well as inspire her live performances and private reflective listening," and "the importance of experimentation within one's practice."[17]

Social activism edit

Koen has worked with Bikes Not Bombs, a non-profit organization geared toward increasing social mobility for marginalized youth through hands-on training pertaining to bicycle mechanics. She served as a Director of Service and Education.[18] She was also on staff at the bicycle shop in 2011.[19] Bikes Not Bombs is located in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.[20]
