The INEGI Code is a code assigned by the INEGI, the official statistical agency Mexican, to identify the territorial groupings of the Mexican territory: states, municipalities, delegations and localities.

Structure

The State Geostatistical Area is made up of two digits, these can be from 01 to 32, giving an order for each state of Mexico, with Aguascalientes being the state with the code 01 and Zacatecas the state with the digit 32. The Municipal Geostatistical Area is made up of three digits starting with 001 and identifies each municipality of Mexico or delegation within its corresponding state. The locality code consists of four digits starting with 0001 and identifies each locality within its corresponding municipality. Thus, the code of the state of Aguascalientes is 01, that of the municipality of Aguascalientes is 01001 and that of the city of Aguascalientes is 010010001.
