The Howard University College of Arts and Sciences (known as The Flagship or COAS) is the largest and oldest of Howard University's thirteen schools. The school serves the college of liberal arts and sciences for the Howard University, and comprises the fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences divisions of the University.[1]

The college is considered as one of the most prestigious schools, with around 4,000 undergraduate students, and comprises 24 majors and over 40 concentrations, representing a significant portion of the University's instructional, scholarly and research activity.[2]

The college is known for its numerous prominent alumni, particularly in the fields of government, economic development, and public policy, including notable figures, such as: Kamala Harris (Vice President of the United States ), Andrew Young (United States Ambassador to the United Nations), Patricia Roberts Harris (United States Secretary of Health and Human Services),Edward Brooke (United States Senator), Elijah Cummings (U.S. House of Representative), and Summer Lee (U.S. House of Representative).[3]

The College enrolls approximately 4,000 students in over 20 fields. For the class entering 2021, 16,495 students applied and 2,857 were offered admission with 1,443 accepting admittance into the College.[4]
