The construction of the hotel was accompanied by the disapproval of local residents. The historical house U zlatého orlo was located on the original site , which was partly Gothic and Renaissance , and which was of key importance from the point of view of the history of Pilsen. Historically, it was the first house in Pilsen where beer was brewed. The discussion about the future of the dilapidated (but not dilapidated) house, which also had historical protection, took place throughout the 60s of the last century. Some Pilsen residents protested against the blasting of the building in the spring of 1968.
Construction of the current hotel began in 1968 and lasted six years, until 1972 . The building was created according to the project of architect Jaroslava Gloserová . She worked out several forms of what the hotel could look like. The selected variant is a building with a reinforced concrete frame, the facade of which was divided so that it fits better into the historical development of the square. Within the new building, some Gothic cellars were preserved and integrated into the new building.
Originally, the hotel was to be called Hotel Urquell, after the local beer , but the name was changed in 1972 to Hotel Ural in connection with the opening of the building.
Since 1990 , the building has had the current name Hotel Centrál . In the early 1990s, the facade of the building was renovated. The interiors were also modernized (which was also designed by the architect Gloserová), only the common spaces remained in their original form.
