Draft:Historic center of Albano Laziale

The centre of Albano Laziale ("centro di Albano Laziale" in italian) corresponds to the territory of the first municipal decentralization district[1] of the municipality of Albano Laziale, in the province of Rome, in Lazio.

Albano was founded in the Early Middle Ages in the site occupied in the emperial age by Castra Albana, the italian camp of the "Legio II Parthica": during the Middle Ages the city experienced troubled military and property affairs, disputed between the Apostolic Camera and the Savelli. It was sacked by the Saracens in the 9th century, besieged in 1108, razed to the ground in 1168 and 1436: since the 13th century it was permanently subjected to the dominion of the Savelli, who gave the city the title of principality. A period of splendor for the city began with the acquisition of the fiefdom by the Apostolic Chamber in 1697, and the city's commercial life revived considerably at the end of the 18th century with the reopening of the Via Appia Nuova.

The town hall is located in the historic center of Albano Laziale. The territory of Albano Laziale also includes the administrative districts of Cecchina (second district) and Pavona (third district). Furthermore, it is a suburbicarian episcopal seat attested since the 4th century[2] and seat of the magistrate's court.
