Hissam Uddin Banday, born in Hazratbal, Srinagar, Kashmir, was a prominent Muslim figure and a senior politician affiliated with the National Conference. Renowned for his custodianship of the Hazratbal Shrine and the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad, he secured political victories reflecting widespread support. Sadly, on June 4, 1991, his political journey met a tragic end when he was assassinated outside his residence, marking a significant event in the history of Kashmiri politics.
